This book is not for the apprentice. I needed to realize some great "old" time songs, jazz performances, some new harmony voicings, and perceive how the jazz greats of yesteryear played. The book is extremely difficult and for me, its a decent work environment. The discs have great sound quality, for listening to precisely what is being demonstrated in the music.

Two remarkable courses of action are "Hazy" and 'Late spring', each by an alternate arranger. I like "Dim" for the development and "Mid year" for the inclination. These are by all account not the only great plans in the book, only my undisputed top choices. The recordings are no frills generally using only a miked up jazz guitar however there are a couple of special cases with bossa nova mood areas.

The main slight negative I've found is there are a couple tunes that were organized, performed and/or recorded inadequately. One arranger for instance tries to put harmonies to each beat of the song he handles which is repetitive sounding and excessively troublesome for even him, making it impossible to draw off. Obstinately adhering to one control when joining different methods may help is silly.

Another sample is the plan of "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" which sounds more like a burial service requiem than the uptempo, fun tune it was intended to be. The harmony/tune organization is most likely wrong for this tune. Most of the game plans are however professionally equipped to outstanding. 'Misty'(Rick Stone-arranger) to rehash utilizes interesting,(not ordinary), harmony voicings that change as the melody advances, snappy change harmonies, counterpoint, rising diads, some direct lines and the sky is the limit from there. Pleasantly done I think ! You wouldn't have to add much to this one.
